Beat The Final Whistle: Joe Is Cycling 5,000km for Mental Health - Fitness Worx

At Fitness Worx, we believe fitness is about far more than physical strength. It’s about resilience, connection, purpose, and supporting one another through every challenge life throws our way. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to support one of our own, Joe Dick, as he prepares to take on an extraordinary challenge in aid of mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

This summer, Joe will attempt to cycle 5,000km from Mexico City to New York City during the FIFA World Cup 2026 — completing the journey in just 39 days, matching the exact duration of the tournament itself. His campaign is called Beat The Final Whistle, and behind the physical challenge lies a much deeper mission: raising awareness around mental health and suicide prevention.

More Than a Bike Ride

Joe’s challenge is inspired by a powerful and sobering statistic — 1 in 4 people will experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. As football unites countries across the globe during the World Cup, Joe wants to use the tournament’s platform to encourage conversations around mental health, connection, and support.

Having experienced his own mental health struggles, this mission is deeply personal. Through every mile cycled, Joe hopes to show that no one has to suffer in silence and that movement, community, and open conversation can genuinely change lives.

The Fitness Worx Community Behind the Mission

Over the past few months, many of our members have already seen Joe putting in the work.

From community exercise sessions and football tournaments to gruelling 24-hour bike rides inside the gym, Joe has been using Fitness Worx as a platform to bring people together and encourage movement in all forms.

What makes this challenge so inspiring is that it perfectly reflects what we stand for as a gym community:

  • Supporting mental and physical well-being equally
  • Encouraging people to move in ways they enjoy
  • Creating connections through fitness
  • Using exercise as a positive outlet

Whether it’s a structured gym session, a social football kickabout, or simply turning up for yourself on a tough day, movement matters.

Why CALM?

Joe is raising funds for CALM — Campaign Against Living Miserably — a charity dedicated to preventing suicide and providing life-saving mental health support. The organisation works tirelessly to offer helplines, practical advice, and resources for those struggling with mental health challenges.

Importantly, 80% of donations from the campaign will go directly to CALM, helping fund their essential work, while the remaining amount supports the logistics needed to complete such an ambitious journey.

How You Can Support

This is bigger than one person cycling across continents. It’s about showing the power of community and proving that fitness can be a force for good. If you’d like to support Joe and the Beat The Final Whistle campaign, you can donate directly via his JustGiving page:
